Meiden die Rijden was founded in 2021 by Ilayda Küçükosmanoğlu to create an inclusive and fun cycling community for women in Rotterdam. As a long-distance cyclist, Ilayda noticed a lack of clubs that offered a welcoming space for women cyclists of all backgrounds. Her vision was to establish a social ride group that emphasized fun and accessibility, free from competition or intimidation, where cyclists could connect and ride together.
In 2022, Sterre Volker joined the group after spotting the group on instagram. Instantly connecting with Ilayda’s vision, she quickly became a key part of the team as a captain and co-founder. She plays a important role in shaping the group. Together, Ilayda and Sterre manage Meiden die Rijden, sharing not only a passion for cycling but also a friendship that strengthens their commitment to the group's mission.
Under their joint leadership, Meiden die Rijden has evolved into a vibrant community where cycling is accessible to everyone, regardless of bike type, skill level, or experience. Their shared vision of inclusivity and enthusiasm has transformed the group into a lively space where cyclists can connect, share experiences and ride together in a positive vibe.
Looking ahead, Ilayda and Sterre plan to make even more impact by hosting cycling workshops, collaborating with local cycling events and partnering with other clubs to make cycling an empowering and welcoming activity for all. On that note, feel free to reach out to us!
